First week in Germany!

Well, our first week in Germany was NOT easy.  Actually, it has been a complete DISASTER!!!  L Dubs has been running around all week trying to get a labor permit, residence permit, tax ID number and card, bank account, and health insurance. Unfortunately if any one thing is missing then no work.  Nein work means nein paycheck!!  Hopefully we will get everything squared away within the next couple of weeks but he is quite disappointed that he cannot start on time.  On a brighter note, we have begun to use the tram system here in Leipzig.  It goes everywhere we need to go so we won’t need to get a car.  L Rizzy has been cruising around in his new walker.  He loves it! I don’t think they even sell these things in the U.S. anymore.  Don’t worry, though, because we don’t have any steps for him to tumble down.  Also, he loves his new bathtub, as you can see from the picture below.  But imagine my surprise to come out of my shower to find an out of work heart surgeon playing hairdresser on my son!  Moreover, L Dubs found his new favorite drink…Schwip Schwap.  I’ll let him make a guest appearance to explain.

Hello Blog world… Two words.  Schwip.  Schwap.  Amazing.  It’s cola + orange.  Made by the Pepsi Co. and it is absolute heaven in a can.  Basically we happened upon a Mediterranean joint right around the corner from our flat… we entered and made small talk.  This consisted of me asking if the man spoke English.  He nodded yes.  Then proceeded to prove that in fact he knew zero English.  So after a couple of nervous giggles I pointed to the picture of the Gyro that we wanted.  I then proceeded over to the drink refrigerator only to spot out of the corner of my eye a new can I had never seen before.  Schwip.  Schwap.  I pulled it out.  Cola + Orange.  Here’s how I did the math in my head:

Cola = Good
Orange = Good

Cola + Orange = great.

Thankfully my math was perfect because this drink was amazing.  I drank half and spilled the rest over my head in a fit of passion and excitement.  As a special bonus, the Gyro was fantastic, too.  After I celebrated with a quick, shirtless victory lap around our neighborhood park, we all blazed the trail home.  The only thing missing from the Schwip Schwap was about 4 fingers of Jim Beam.  Cheers bloggers.  Until the next time I can wrassle the computer away from ol’ bag a bones I leave you with this thought:

In the year of our lord, 1314, the patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, rushed the fields of Bannockburn.  They fought like warrior poets.  The fought like Scotsmen.  And won their freedom.  Forever.
