So we finally got Internet in the apartment. I say finally when really it's only been 2 weeks. However, it's been a LONG two weeks. It is unbelievable how much L Mama and I are hooked on the ol' information superhighway. We have accomplished a lot in 2 weeks. While I was not able to start on the 15th as I was supposed to, it is looking like I will be able to sign the contract soon. This is all good news and we are feeling marginally better about things. Today I was able to scrub on my first two cases in Deutschland. The first was a billed as a cardiac tumor but turned out to be old blood clot that had calcified around the heart. The second was supposed to be a minimally invasive mitral valve repair but at the last minute I was taken out of that and put in a room with a surgeon I had never met to help her do a coronary bypass operation. Needless to say it was a shit show. But I digress....
The real reason for this post is to inform all of you about L Mama's new favorite food- Currywurst. Basically it is a cut up hot dog with spicy goo all over it. Usually it is served with "pommes" which you Yankee's would call "Freedom Fries." She had it at the Zoo and hasn't clammed up about it since. So I indulged her... the pictures prove it. Just enjoy the menu options. Also- the drink we enjoyed with the meal was Mezzo Mix- a total rip off of Schwip Schwap... but nonetheless good in a pinch. I polished off a "new york hot dog" which had relish, ketchup, and bacon bits on it. Too bad I ordered a hot dog with only ketchup on it... I guess that got lost in translation.
L Rizzy has been doing well. He is settling into his nighttime routine and I love being home to read him his bed time story. He doesn't have a favorite yet but you can rest assured my vote is for "I MUST have Bobo." For those who don't know- Bobo is an alcoholic drink that consists taking any old household drinks and mixing them with large quantities of hooch and ice in a plastic water bottle. It is a surefire fast-track to not sober. In the book, however, Bobo is the little kid's stuffed animal. Nevertheless, it is MY favorite book.
Tonight there was a party outside our apartment. There was even a DJ. There were signs posted in our complex about there being a party and that it may be loud. But I guess that invite for us got lost in the mail. We had fun watching the Germans have fun.
And finally... we received a gorgeous care package in the mail courtesy of none other than Rikkerica. The kid loves America and it shows. My personal favorite is the American flag pinky ring. A close second, though, is the empty bottle of Budweiser. We quickly hung the ribbon and posted the magnet... but we don't have a place for the 1987 America streamer yet. Tapcon.
All in all we are starting to settle in nicely- we miss everyone dearly. Also, please don't hesitate to comment on the posts.
And I leave you with these parting words:
"Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here."

That Budweiser bottle was empty? Shart. My bad, I must've put the wrong bottle in the A.C.P. (American Care Package). But I suppose thats what happens when Poppa Bear takes to the Bobo. Anycrap, I'm glad you found the zoo. And the Schwip Schwap. Do they have any idea how priceless that is? Seriously, it's almost too good to be true...Schwip Schwap. I can't get that outta my head now...I use those two words for everything, and Devon's 'bout had it up to here (I'm making a hand gesture up to my forehead)..In fact, she just hollered in from the other room and asked me what I was giggling about. I told her I was schwip schwappin' a comment on the LRizzy post. She said, "Shut up. You're an idiot. And what the hell does that even mean!? Stop saying that."...Well, I don't take too kindly to being sassafrassed, so I had to go schwip schwap her around a bit. Freedom isn't free. Oh, and sweet pics, btw (by the way).

ReplyDeleteYep good stuff.
Good to see you and hear your doing well..
Nice back ground. Where's the photo from.
You can try a "Ramset" instead of a hammer drill - uses a 22 round to set nails, bolts and stuff..
Be safe,
Bob
Hey Bob,
ReplyDeleteThings are ok here- the background is from Canada- five hours north of Toronto at a place called Lake Temagami. Amazing
Hope things are good there
