Blograpes:
I had a great idea. When listening to Tom Petty "Learnin' to Fly" I got to thinking- I could write lyrics to this song in the vein of "Learnin' to Walk" and create a music video to document L Rizzy's ascension to ambulation. I spent literally months (minutes) slaving over the lyrics. I listened to the karaoke version on repeat for hours (twice) on end. When I was finally finished I was happy with the song I had come up with. I had some music editing software and when I went to lay down my vocals disaster struck. Despite being in perfect key and having perfect timing, when I listened to the play back it sounded distorted and there was a 1 second delay making my recording sounds exactly what it wasn't: unprofessional. I was angry. I took to Google and fired off some heated searches. What I found out was that the microphone in my computer was adequate for Skype and stuff, it was too small and buried to handle the complexity of an angel's voice belting out homemade lyrics over an instrumental track. I could go buy a microphone to seal the deal once and for all but I think we all know that particular item does not fall into either category from which I spend my hard earned dinero: cheap booze or fast women. Instead, I will wait until our triumphant return to the US of A to book some studio time to lay down this Billboard 100 hit.
In the meantime, I want you all to revert back to your 5 year old selves. Take yourself into your kindergarden or first grade classroom (Mrs. Taylor) and imagine you are playing make believe. Imagine the Mr. M with the Munchin Mouth just showed up in your classroom and it's time to sing along with his song. Below are the lyrics I came up with as well as a video compilation of some pictures from L Rizzy's first year set to the instrumental of the Tom Petty song. Close the windows, turn off your phone, put down the remote... it's time for you to have your American Idol moment.
Learning To Walk lyrics
To the music Learning to Fly by Tom Petty
Songwriter: Henn, Lucas W
Well, I started out, on a dirty floor
Started out, on my own
When the sun went down hadn’t crossed the room
When the sun comes up, I’ll resume
I'm learning to walk but I ain't that good
The hardest thing, is floors of wood
Well, I’m gonna try, to master it
Cause I don’t like, to lay or sit
I'm learning to walk but I ain't that good
The hardest thing, is floors of wood
Long Break
Well, some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I've started out for God knows where
I guess I'll know when I get there
I'm learning to walk to get around
I’ll see you all, at the playground
Short Break
I'm learning to walk but I ain't that good
The hardest thing, is floors of wood
I'm learning to walk to get around
I’ll see you all, at the playground
I'm learning to walk
I'm learning to walk
And below are videos of L Rizzy actually starting to walk. Initially quite tentative but since the early trails he has slowly taken more and more to the upright position. It won't be long now that he'll be running around, getting into the trash, playing with electrical outlets and trying to swallow our phones. We can't wait!
