Lunch at Avignonesi

As mentioned in the last post, we left Castellina in Chianti and headed for a winery called Avignonesi.  This place came HIGHLY recommended from Uncles Curt and Matt so we had to add it onto our trip.  It worked out perfectly because it was one hour from Chianti and then two more hours onto Rome so it broke the trip up nicely for L Rizzy.  They were right... the food, wine and views were amazing.

Our first course was Pienza's percorino cheese flan with cream of spinach which was a perfect appetizer.  We then had homemade Pici with guinea fowl and prunes ragout- amazing pasta.  The third course was Rooster with tomatoes, red and yellow peppers and potatoes... never had Rooster before but cannot wait to have it again.  The final course was a wild berry tart.  Wild=good.  Berry=good.  Tart=good.  Wild+Berry+Tart=great.  Each course was matched with one or two wines that we tasted and got a full history from our waiter.  The whole meal was perfect and we left Avignonesi with full bellies and smiles on our faces (although I think L Rizzy was a bit tipsy so we took the car keys from him).
