Pompeii, Italy

We woke up in Rome and caught a train to Naples.  For the record, this train was not moving slow.  Also for the record, prior to boarding the train I did 236 push ups, not wind aided.  No big deal.

Once in Naples, we found Giovanni with a "Henn Family" sign and followed him to our ample chariot.  Giovanni was an amazingly delightful fellow.  He toted us to Pompeii where we had a fantastic pizza lunch (I really wanted some Genji fried rice... but when in Rome....).  For the record: it took us a bit long to get to Pompeii because of all the construction.  They are constructing an extra lane outbound from Mount Vesuvious in case of a new eruption that is scheduled to occur in the next 20 years.  Well, at least they have a schedule!  After lunch he then snatched us up and barreled down the road to OLD Pompeii.

Once at the ruins we met up with our guide who was really patient and knowledgeable.  She showed us around the ruins and told great stories about the excavations and history of the buried city.  L Rizzy had a prime seat being carried around on the chest of L Mama.  This was his second tour on her chest- the first being the Vatican.  Some guys have all the luck.  Pompeii was really impressive.  Without a doubt it exceeded our expectations.  We did not actually have Pompeii on our schedule of places to visit but would recommend to anyone visiting the area to check out this amazing site.

At the completion of the tour we met back up with Giovanni who drove us away from Pompeii through the mountains towards the Amalfi Coast.  He expertly delivered us at our hotel for the next 3 days, Buca di Bacco, and went upon his merry way.  In three days time he will pick us up to take us to the Naples airport to a flight home to Leipzig...

May the next few days be filled with fun, wine, sun, wine, food, wine, and relaxation. And wine.

Ready for pizza!
