Our time in Leipzig is slowly but surely winding down. We now have less than a month left here (25 days, no big deal). In order to help the time move quickly we have tried to stay as busy as possible.
This week we also had to return to the bane of our first month here: the Techniches Rathaus. At this wonderful governmental establishment of efficiency, we had to apply to extend our residency and labor permits for 14 days. You see, in order to stay and work here for the year we needed these wonderful permits (without them I could not sign the contract). But in order to get the permits we needed a valid contract. So we took my contract, which read that it would run from August 15, 2011 to August 14, 2012 and got our permits 2 weeks late on August 29, 2011 (but they expire on August 14, 2012). But when I took the permits to the HR department and they promptly changed the dates to August 29, 2011 to August 28, 2012. Hence, the gap in permit coverage. Thankfully this time we brought our German friend along who deftly navigated the sewer of bureaucracy and we came out clean with new permits on the other side.
We also visited a nearby lake, which we had visited in the past, and enjoyed the sand, water, and nude old men. Another day we revisited the Wild Park with friends and fed the deer, which L Rizzy really enjoyed. Another day still we went back to the Zoo and endured a monster thunder storm while watching the tigers play and swim. L Rizzy also enjoyed the petting zoo again with the goats but this time the goats were running away from his kisses... which really mad him angry. He proceeded to voice his displeasure by calling the goats a series of 4-lettered words such as "Baba" and "Nana" and such. Then he dropped into a wildly protracted temper tantrum. I assure you that this was similarly unappealing to the goats who maintained a good distance from the scene. While this was not the highlight of our time here, we were happy that another week had passed.
