While our B&B in Stirling was quite lovely, the bed in our room was not quite so lovely. Add to this the fact that L Rizzy decided yet again at 4am to have a romp and play fest for an hour, our sleep last night was not perfect. Nevertheless, after a hearty breakfast, we headed out of Stirling due north (well northwestish initially) into the Highlands. We were on a 2 lane highway for the majority of the 4 hours of driving today, but the scenery was gorgeous. We stopped several times to take pictures as you can see below.
Our first scheduled stop, though, was at Urquhart Castle. While this castle was not as well preserved (it's barely there), it's view of the Loch Ness was amazing. I kept scanning the water looking for Nessie but to no avail. However, if you look at the pictures below, I may have caught the ol' girl coming up for a quick breather. After stomping around the castle and a quick lunch we headed on down the road a bit to the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition. It was here we got a better look at Nessie. However, what was more exciting, was the classic cars that filled the parking lot. Gorgeous old Ferraris, MGs, and Benzs in pristine condition were on display for all to see. The station wagon didn't quite measure up next to these beauties.
After satisfying our monster fix, we drove the last 20 miles up to Inverness and checked into our gorgeous B&B (with a fantastic bed). We walked around Inverness and got some take away dinner so that L Rizzy could get his shower and get to bed- he needs his rest if he's going to be roughhousing at 4am again. Immediately prior to bed he decided to start practicing his peeing stance over and over. Strange, but true. Hopefully he'll practice his sleep through the night routine tonight.
Tomorrow we will drive by Forres to check out Sueno's Stone, then onto The Macallan distillery to have 4-5 drams before continuing onto our hotel in Aberdeen. More car trips for L Rizzy but with the whiskey in my system I'll be sure to keep the ride interesting for him.
