November 11 was finally here, and the Henn family was headed to America. Our journey started at 4:00 a.m. when the alarm rang for us to get up and head to the tram. L Dubs, L Rizzy in the stroller, three suitcases, and I then boarded the train to the airport. L Dubs had to lift all of our gear onto the train and up into the bins above the seats. Let me just say, the suitcases were each 50 lbs! You could have played slip-n-slide on L Dubs back after that work! L Rizzy enjoyed his first train ride as you can tell by his face in the first picture below.
The fun started on our transatlantic flight from Munich to Philadelphia. I am going to get right to the point...L RIZZY WAS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!! He cried/whined about 70% of the nine hour flight. L Dubs and I were trying our best to keep him quiet, but he was NOT happy. He was a tired baby. At one point, I was standing up rocking him, and the b*t@h flight attendant said,"you're going to need to sit down with her." REALLY- First off all, HE is not a HER, and second of all, I will sit down if you want him to throw a fit for another two hours. Then, I look back at the guy sitting directly behind us and he shakes his head at me. Like I wasn't trying my best to calm L Rizzy down. Sorry the D-Bag couldn't get his beauty sleep (JERK). As if that wasn't enough, lets talk about our not so sober neighbors. We were supposed to have an entire row of four seats to ourselves, but at the last minute, they sat two guys next to us. A couple of minutes later the flight attendant asked the guys if they would like to sit in first class because he wanted us to have the row to ourselves. He asked them a number of times and they kept saying "coach." Finally the flight attendant said "forget it," and had other people go to first class. We later find out that they don't speak very good English. They obviously didn't understand what the flight attendant was trying to get them to do. They dropped the ball on that one, and we had to suffer. They were from Poland. They drank enough Scotch on the flight to kill a small dog. They were so hammered. They kept trying to talk to L Dubs. At one point, the one guy spilled his Scotch all over the place. If they would have just sat in first class, as suggested, they could have boozed it up for FREE! And at 7 bucks per ounce, that hooch really adds up. Anyways, after nine long, exhausting hours, we were in Columbus, greeted by Grandmother and Aunt Katie. I could not wait to pass L RIZZY off on them.
We enjoyed our time in Columbus and in Youngstown. L Rizzy was able to visit tons of friends and family. L Dubs took his Board Exam (the whole point of us coming home). Detailed accounts will follow in the next post. Lastly, L Rizzy was an angel on the plane back home. We had an entire row of four seats. He slept on his own seat for the majority of the flight. Lesson learned...buy L Rizzy his own seat next time!
