Italy: L Rizzy's 8th Country - Como

After parting ways yesterday with Uncle Curt and Aunt Hannah, we boarded a train headed out of Switzerland.  We trained through the Alps (amazing) with a 1 year old (stressful) and away from a rain storm into Italy on the other side (gorgeous).  We stopped in Lugano prior to crossing the border between Switzerland and Italy, then took a commuter train across the border into Como.  Once there we taxi'd to our hotel and all the stress of the train rides quickly melted away.  Our hotel was situated on the banks of Lake Como and was filled with amazing old furniture and character while still boasting amazing views and sweet Italian wine.

That night we enjoyed dinner in the hotel restaurant which was very nice and classy... we were way out of our league.  The food was amazing including some fantastic creme brûlée.  After a good nights rest, we had a filling breakfast and explored the nearest city... which was in fact Cernobbio.  We had lunch at a local pizzeria where I crushed the most monstrous calzone ever made for or even consumed by a living human being.  It was filled with cheese, sauce, peppers, onions, banana peppers, mushrooms, artichoke, olives, and love.  L Mama had a plate full of gnocchi and Grandmother Molly had an artichoke pizza.   Full and weary from a day in the sun, we returned to the hotel to have a bottle of wine on the balcony while watching seaplane after seaplane take off and land.  The first 5 or 6 were really cool, the last 80 or 90 got repetitive.

Tomorrow morning we will slam some breakfast then hop on a train to Venice.  Provided the computer doesn't find it's way into a Venetian canal, our next blog post will be from the city of love.  If the train ride doesn't go so hot, we will post from the city of animosity and irreparable damage.

Moving along...

Not sure who the white hair is in the poster but we called him George Washington the whole train ride... did GW have a unibrow?

Leaving the Alps

L Rizzy is a complete sucker for a nice, big hotel bed

The view from our room... ridiculous

A nice breeze made for curtains that were fun to chase
