Disclaimer to the previous over/under on consecutive cities blogged: this entry and pictures were all ready to go in Lucerne, Switzerland but the internet in the hotel was a complete McJoke so we are posting this from Como, Italy. The next blog post will be tomorrow night about Como.
After a brief but wonderful stay in Zurich we were really excited for the second day of our trip for two reasons. First, due to some amazing coordination and leg work courtesy of Aunt Hannah, we had arranged to meet up with her and Uncle Curt in Interlaken, Switzerland. The second was a planned train ride all together on the Golden Pass from Interlaken to Lucerne. So we woke up at 5:45 am in order to fit in breakfast before our train departure from Zurich at 8:04 am. We trained to Bern and then down to Interlaken. At the train station we met up with Uncle Curt and Aunt Hannah. L Rizzy was excited to see them again and immediately took to being carried (and put to sleep) on Curt's chest. We walked around Interlaken for 2 hours and took pictures of the amazing scenery. We also enjoyed the hang gliders who were constantly roaming the skies.
At 12:04 we caught the Golden Pass train to Lucerne via Brunig. We had fantastic weather and put the windows down to enjoy the mountain wind in our hair. The lakes and fields were gorgeous shades of greens and blues. Uncle Curt and I especially enjoyed the WC's on the train (basically a hole opening to the track below). When we arrived in Lucerne we walked to our hotel and checked in. Once settled, we walked around Lucerne on the Rick Steves' walking tour. The views were perfect. We had dinner at one of the recommended restaurants and the food was delicious. Once it was time for L Rizzy to get to sleep we got some beer and wine and retired to Uncle Curt and Aunt Hannah's room for a night of laughs, conversation, and looking at hilarious old pictures including several of a bearded, unkempt Grandpa Ralph. In the morning we all had a hearty breakfast and headed to the train station. We said our goodbyes and boarded trains heading in opposite directions. While we were sad to part ways, we were thankful to have spent 24 hours together in one of the more beautiful places in the world.
