Trip to the Wildpark

Hello Bloguffies

Last week as we rode the tram home from the lake we saw that one of the stops was labeled as "Wildpark."    Obviously this stop seemed strange in between stops named "Possplatz" and "Markkleeberg."  So we checked it out online... basically a large park with enclosures for random types of animals.  Obviously we were committed to check it out.  So this morning we got up, slammed some cereal, and jumped on tram 9 at Central Station.  We rolled out of the tram without a map... thankfully my internal GPS was receiving an excellent signal.  It was a decent day to be walking in the woods- and L Rizzy was in a decent mood.  We initially saw a place to ride horses, and then we saw a Linx.  Next we saw some big deer kinda things, buffalos, and some owls.  There was an enclosure for meese but as per usual no meese were to be seen.  After some extensive walking Lucas appeared to be hungry- so we found a nice little bench that was remote and he began to eat.

But we heard some rustling across the path in the tall grass.  Out of nowhere something came bounding out at nearly 2 miles per hour headed directly for us.  I was prepared to protect my family when I suddenly lost hearing in my left ear on account of a window shattering scream from my wife.  I shook it off... I placed my foot down between the beast and my family.  The monster bounced off my lateral malleolus.  He bounded off- before he had completely retreated into the brush I snapped a picture of our attacker.

We trugged on and came to a nice little concession stand... we decided to stop for some Currywurst to attempt to get back to baseline.  When I ordered a bratwurst in nearly perfect German the lady responded with an extensive German sentence.  All she got back from me was confusion.    It appeared she was saying that there was no Bratwurst.... I debated ordering something else.  I felt that she was not being a gracious salesperson and felt that my hard earned money was not gonna be wasted in her pocket.  So we bounced... but before we did two women who were eating with their families obviously said something about me to each other and giggled like school girls.  I resisted the urge to relate to them the details of my recent heroism.

We eventually made our way to the tram and back to Central Station.  We licked our wounds with some highly nutritious McDonald's and went grocery shopping.  Upon walking home we ran into a group of 4 Americans who are flight attendants from Atlanta and we were happy to have a 20 minute conversation in English.  Again, I resisted the urge to relate to them the details of my recent heroism.

L Rizzy was exhausted and fell asleep on my chest, making the whole harrowing ordeal worthwhile.

On our way into the wild

Trying to elicit some giggles from L Rizzy

Taking a gander at some ferrets

Safe? Maybe not.  Good Pic?  Probably.

Deer type things... with huge racks.  Not a tree stand in sight...

Monster buffalo... possibly could benefit from a shower

Our near assassin

Asleep and drooling

And a quote to ponder:
"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better."
