Dresden, Germany

We've lived in Leipzig for nearly a year now, and in all this time we had failed to travel the one easy hour to Dresden (other than on our way through to Prague).  At Raj's suggestion, we made the trip this past weekend.  It was a gorgeous city with a some amazing buildings.  What makes it more amazing, is that this city in particular was bombed to the ground in 1945 and everything is rebuilt masterfully.

Of note, Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five was written about his time in Dresden during the war.

On a brighter note, the city has rebounded and we spent 36 hours trudging around the city.  There was a minor mishap, though. The hotel we were staying in initially gave us a baby cot for L Rizzy then took it out of our room while we were exploring.  They left us a sorry note. L Rizzy cannot sleep in a sorry note.  Upon further inquiry it seems that they had promised the cot to someone else.  So L Rizzy slept in the bed surrounded by pillows and under our watchful eyes.  Needless to say our night sleep wasn't great.  Nevertheless, we awoke to free breakfast thanks to the mix up and set out again to visit the city.  Thankfully the weather was much more accommodating on this day.  We enjoyed the sun and even hiked to the top of the Church of the Three Kings for a great view of the city.  Despite the cot flap we all had a great time.
